CALCBS is a member of
Build It Green, a membership supported non-profit organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy- and resource-efficient homes in California.
Established in 2003, they offer a comprehensive package of local government support, professional training, collaboration forums, consumer education, and green product marketing to a range of stakeholders.
Build It Green’s program development strategy has been to incubate good ideas in the San Francisco Bay Area and then expand them statewide, helping to establish California as a role model to other states and the nation for developing pragmatic solutions to environmental challenges. They strive to design programs to have wide-reaching policy impacts that can positively impact Californians.
CALCBS has two Certified Green Building Professionals on staff. Craig A Lawson, President and Mike L. Fitzpatrick, Consulting Project Manager.
Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP) is a course that introduces the overarching principles of green building and the systems approach to the design, construction and operation of residential buildings. Participants learn the understanding of energy efficiency, resource conservation, water conservation, and indoor air quality, and how they can effectively convey the importance of these building principles to homeowners.
Efficiency First
CALCBS is a participating member of Efficiency First, a national nonprofit trade association that unites the Home Performance workforce, building product manufacturers and related businesses and organizations in the escalating fight against global warming and rising energy costs. Efficiency First represents its members in public policy discussions at the state and national levels, to promote the benefits of efficiency retrofitting and to help the home building and remodeling industry grow to meet unprecedented demand for quality residential energy improvements.
Craig A. Lawson was on the initial Steering Committee for the North Bay Chapter of Efficiency First, and participated in the Real Estate Development committee.
Building Performance Institute
CALCBS is a member of The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) a national standards development and credentialing organization for residential energy efficiency retrofit work. BPI offers professional certification examinations on the assessment and upgrade of residential buildings – both single-family and multifamily. They also provide accreditation to contracting companies committed to whole house home performance and quality assurance programs that ensure this work adheres to BPI’s nationwide technical standards. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, they bring together leading building science experts from across North America to develop standards using a consensus-based methodology.

California Building Performance Contractors Association
CALCBS is a member of CBPCA, California’s premier home performance advocate and a leader of the home performance industry’s growth. CBPCA trains contractors and provides them access to a vibrant home performance contractor community and valuable industry-related knowledge. CBPCA’s high-level industry partnerships benefit the home performance contractors and the homeowner. CALCBS is a participant in the
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program in California.
CBPCA believes in a California where a sustainable, ever-expanding home performance industry is responsible for producing energy efficient, healthy, safe and comfortable homes.
Home Energy Pros
CALCBS is a member of Home Energy Pros a social network and community dedicated to Home Energy professionals. Their purpose is to amplify the collective knowledge base of the Home Energy professional network by offering a space for sharing resources, education, and knowledge.
Home Energy Pros offers blogs from industry leaders and peers, an interactive discussion forum, a calendar of upcoming industry events, and a library of resources about home energy efficiency.
Members participate in the Home Energy Pros’ Forum. Open discussions about a wide range of home energy related topics providing members with the ability to connect with other home energy pros and learn from their experience with similar projects.
